In a shocking incident from Maheshliti village in Jharkhand’s Giridih district, a man allegedly strangled his three children before dying by suicide in the early hours of Sunday. The tragedy unfolded in the Pirtand police station area, sending shockwaves through the local community.
The deceased have been identified as 36-year-old Sanaul Ansari, his daughters Afreen Parveen (12) and Zaiba Naz (8), and his son Safaul Ansari (6). According to police officials, the crime likely took place around 2 to 3 a.m., when the victims were asleep.
The horrific discovery was made by neighbors on Sunday morning when they noticed no movement in Sanaul’s house during Sehri (the pre-dawn meal during Ramzan). When their knocks went unanswered, they entered the house and found Sanaul hanging from the ceiling while his three children lay lifeless nearby.
Local police, along with Dumri Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Sumit Prasad, reached the spot immediately after being informed. The bodies were sent to Giridih Sadar Hospital for post-mortem examination. Preliminary investigations suggest that Sanaul strangled his children before taking his own life, but the exact cause behind his actions remains unclear.
Sanaul, a mason by profession, also ran a small ration and clothing shop from his home. His wife was not present at the time of the incident, as she had gone to her maternal home in Jamdha village two days earlier. She rushed back to Maheshliti after receiving the devastating news.
Authorities are still investigating the possible motive behind the murder-suicide. "We are exploring all angles and will question Sanaul's wife and other family members to understand what may have led to this shocking act," said SDPO Sumit Prasad. The incident has left the entire village in mourning, as residents struggle to come to terms with the tragic loss of four lives.
